It’s no secret that the people of the land of the rising sun, Japan, tend to outlive pretty much everyone else in the world. For years, people in the West have been looking at the Japanese and scratching their heads, witnessing as Japan rose from having one of the lowest life expectancy post-WWII, to topping the charts globally. What gives? I’m coming to the answer.

With thousands of options, how will one pick a right career? If you don’t have any idea what you want to do, the task may seem impossible. Fortunately, it isn’t. Put enough thought into it, and you will increase your chances of making a good decision.

Broadly, there are four areas to choose your career

  1. What you love
  2. What you are good at
  3. What the world needs
  4. What you can be paid well

If you choose a career what you what you love as well as you are good at, it becomes your Passion.

If you choose a career what you what you love as well as what the world needs, it becomes your Mission.

If you choose a career what you what you can be paid well as well as you are good at, it becomes your Profession.

If you choose a career what you what you can be paid good as well what the world needs, it becomes your Vocation.

When your Passion and Mission are the same, you are delighted and feel fullness in life, but may not make wealth.

When your passion and profession are the same, you have a dream job, you have satisfied life, but may feel uselessness.

When your mission and vocation are the same you have excitement and complacency in life, but may feel sense of uncertainty.

When your profession and Vocation are the same you have comfortable life, but you may feel emptiness.

Where Passion, Mission, Profession and Vocation are same that’s your Fulfilling career. It’s your Ikigai.

Whats Ikigai

Ikigai is a Japanese concept that means “a reason for being”.  Everyone, according to Japanese culture, has an Ikigai. The secret to a long and happy life is not to live in the hope of a great life tomorrow. It is to live with intention today, finding which requires a deep and often lengthy search of self.

The Japanese believe that by finding your ikigai, you can achieve a happier, more balanced life. The people of japan believe that each one has an ikigai, the reason to jump out of bed every morning.

That the reason why Japanese have higher life expectancy than their counterparts in the world.
